Uploading files using FTP

You are not required to use WS_FTP to send files to KMG INSIGHTS. You may use any FTP client of your choice. The version of WS_FTP provided is an old (free) version of this program. It does not have a lot of features, but provides basic FTP functionality to allow file uploads, and can be run from any directory you store it in (the program does not require an installation procedure - simply download the program and double-click the file to run).

For security reasons, we do not provide anonymous FTP access to our servers. KMG INSIGHTS will provide you with your own FTP login. Your user ID will look like an e-mail address, and will allow private access to your files. Only you and the KMG INSIGHTS team will have access to this directory. By setting up an FTP account for you, this login will ensure that your uploaded files are stored in the correct directory on our server.


INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Create a directory (folder) on your computer called "FTP" or "Upload" or something similar.
    This will be the folder you use for sending files to us.
    Put a copy of all documents, images, etc. that you want to send to KMG INSIGHTS in /FTP (or whatever you called this folder).
    Remember to always use this folder to send files to us. This folder is also where you will install WS_FTP.

  2. Download the FTP client WS_FTP here.
    Save the file to your computer, selecting the directory you created above.

  3. Start (double-click) WS_FTP.exe.   WS_FTP will start and look similar to this:   (click image for full-size view)


  4. Configuring WS_FTP
    • Enter a Profile name (ex: "KMGInsights")
    • Enter host name: ftp.kmginsights.com
    • Host Type: Auto detect
    • User ID: [enter user ID provided to you]
    • Password: [enter password provided to you]
    • Check Save Password
    • Press the Save button (or configuration will be lost)
    • Press Ok
    • This should start a new FTP session (see next step below)



  5. Start an FTP session and upload files
    • The left window shows the local directory on your computer where you installed WS_FTP (your upload directory)
    • The right window shows the remote directory on our server (where you will upload files)


    • Select the files you are sending to us on the left
      (if the files are in the same directory as WS_FTP, they should be listed)
    • With the files selected, drag the files to the right side, or press the right arrow button (between the windows) to upload.

    • As files are being uploaded, you will see a progress window like this:



    • After the files have finished uploading, you should see a list on the right of what files are on the server

That's it! You will need to use the login and password provided to you.

* If KMG INSIGHTS is waiting for your files, please make sure you notify us after you finish uploading.
